Review of the Hunter 25 by Douglas

Year built 1975
Location of boat Shell Beach LA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2010
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Of course, even with all the work involved in her restoration, it is a excellent boat.
Gear that's been added Added a GPS nav system and a VHF radio. I am going to exchange the Alcohol stove for a propane one and a RV type fridge.
Structural or complex improvements Not yet, but I have to replace the whoe floor in the boat. Even with the floor rotted out, the fiberglass is heavy enough theboat sails fine.
The boat's best features It is a great boat for learning to sail. I have sailed for years, but I am teaching my wife and kids on this boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The electrical system has given the most fits. Old wiring and neglect have really taken a toll on the electrical system.
Sailing characterisitcs Very gentle and reliable even in low wind.
Motoring characterisitcs Very stable and responsive.
Liveability Kinda tight with 4 people, wouldnt want to go more than a week or so.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not dealt directly with hunter except to get a manual, which they didnt have.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I got it from a friend, who got it from the original owner. The boat has suffered years of neglect following Hurricane Katrina. She is bruised but still proud. I am proud to own the boat. I have it moored in a fishing community, and as I work on her, I have more people stopping by and offering help. She is a beauty.
Other comments This is a heavy glass boat. I have saile many fiberglass boats over the years and have never seen one so solid. For a 35 year old boat, she is a work of art. Once I cleaned up 5 years of algae and slime, gave her a good waxing, if you didnt look down below at the mess there, you would swear she was only a few years old. I love my Hunter!!!
