Review of the Hunter 23.5 by Andreas Holt

Year built 1993
Location of boat Lake "Steinhuder Meer", Germany
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, definetly. There are not many on the market in Europe. Found it used on the internet. Our family likes the easy sailing and the large cockpit area. Named it Bluebonnet, as we lived in TX for some years.
Gear that's been added Re did the wall covering in the rear. Added compass, combined and echo sounder, radio and speaker system, cabin lights, 24V electric outboarder, new interior floor, GPS.
Structural or complex improvements I have fixed the rudder holding device. Added boom vang.
The boat's best features Spacy for this size of boat. Nice and clean. Easy to sail until 15 knots wind. Needs to be reefed early.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Added 2nd row of reef points in main sail. I am missing genau racks for better trimming options of the foresail. My boat has not got a furling forestay.
Sailing characterisitcs Needed to be reefd early enough. Tends to list earlier than many other boats (very light). Reduce list and keep speed by opening main when sailing high to the wind.
Motoring characterisitcs Only electrical power is allowed on our lake. 24V Minn Kota provides maximimun 2,5 knots. Works fine to exit and enter the marina. It's a sailing boat.
Liveability Looks well maintained, nice and clean.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Even for German's, you receive all answers and quotes for spare parts. Shipping of spares is quite expensive to Europe.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought is private. The German dealership took over Hunter in 2008. No experience yet in dealing with him. The dutch one is known to be experienced.
