Review of the Hunter 27 by Cathy Brandstetter

Year built 2007
Location of boat Racine, WI
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2008
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Ask me again in a year or so
Gear that's been added This was a Boat Show Special, so it was already pretty well outfitted (in-mast furling, Mariner package, etc.); we added autohelm, and would have (and may still) added the Sheeting package as well.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Headroom!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs We definitely need to get used to the in-mast furling, as opposed to reefing! Had her out for the first time when the wind picked up to @ 20MPH..had a white-knuckle ride back into the harbor, heeled way over, where we reminded ourselves of that feature (and bemoaned the lack of a traveler)...
Motoring characterisitcs 18hp Yanmar is great! Does 2 knots barely in gear, which can make docking interesting...
Liveability Very comfortable dockside (read: plugged in)
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Racine Riverside is great!
Other comments There are still a few commissioning issues being taken care of, so we don't really feel like we've taken possession (although the payments have started!) She's still the the dealer's slip, across the river from her permanent home. This is a move up from an old Catalina 22, so it's a lot to get used to...
