Review of the Hunter 28 by Doug Jones

Year built 1989
Location of boat Castle Rock Colorado
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength Press here to select
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. A good value and fun to sail.
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features good ventilation and is fairly quick for so beamy a boat. The 4'draft is nice. I had a trailer built for it and pull it with my Durango Hemi.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The roof window leaks and I have had a devil of a time getting it re-sealed.
Sailing characterisitcs Does need a reef at 15 knots but is fairly stiff once you get it balanced. I stay out when others come in.
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar is an excellent engine. Backs nice. Stingy on deasel.I use about 5 gallons a year.
Liveability I retired and now use it 3 t 4 times a week. Good for weekends.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Torrensen Marine in Muskegon Michigan. Nice people. Jeff was great and we spar about the Broncos and Packers. They have every part you can imagine and respond quickly. I would buy from them again.
Other comments I love it. There is a good reason you can never find this year and model for sale. People keep them until they die. Or it sinks.Or both.
