Review of the Hunter 45CC by Jon Cox

Year built 2007
Location of boat Racine, Wisconsin
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely, we love this boat. It has everything we wanted at a price we could afford. It may not be a Swan, but it is good for us.
Gear that's been added Yes, Raymarine E120 Chartplotter, GPS, Radar, bow thruster, cockpit cushions, 23" sony TV in the aft cabin, and a custom bimini and dodger.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Since my wife and I are usually the only crew, it was important that we could handle the boat ourselves. The electric winch is extremely helpful. We love the aft cabin as well as the ample salon. We spend every weekend on the boat during boating season. In mast furling makes sail handling easy for either of us. The center cockpit makes docking easy.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Why there is a switch on the panel for battery charger, when it is not connected to anything makes no sense. It would be nice to have a meter clearly showing the batteries are charging. The forward shower sump had to be replaced, but that seemed a small thing overall.
Sailing characterisitcs Handles very good in a stiff breeze. We have been out a couple of times in 25 knott winds and loved it. Light air is not our friend.
Motoring characterisitcs The motor response is good. Handling under motor is like driving a car. Of course a boat this size does not stop or turn on a dime, but that is to be expected.
Liveability Great, we spend every weekend during sailing season on board and love it.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Working with Racine Riverside Marine is great. They were there to help answer questions, take us on a test sail, always ready to help with any question or issue.
