Review of the Hunter 25.5 by Ryan Stroupe

Year built 1986
Location of boat Washington, NC
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would buy this boat again in a heart beat. This has been an excellent learning boat for us. When we bought this boat we didn’t have a clue how to sail or hardly anything about boats. Boy what a year of boat ownership can teach you!!
Gear that's been added GPS, Sonar, Pop Top Cover, Plexiglas door, counter extension, stereo, TV, satellite, Bimini, Dodger, Enclosure, Curtains, Nissan 9.9 HP outboard, extra tiller handle, instant hot shower, Pull out queen size mid cabin berth.
Structural or complex improvements The dodger kit was about as complex as I will ever attempt with a sail rite kit. Recoating the floors was about the most rewarding.
The boat's best features Small size with the features of a large boat and and easy to manage solo... Not to mention that per the foot cost for dockage.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I honestly can't think of anything that I would do differently other than 6 more inches of head room.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat is a little slow but or coarse we have added a lot of weight as well. Handles really well in every weather condition we have experianced so far.
Motoring characterisitcs We don't motor hardly any unless we have too and really like our new Nissan 9.9.
Liveability It could be done solo and I suppose with one other person very close to you but it would be cramped.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have called them one time to find out what was used to reseal the floors and had excellent service. Daly's Sea Fin Teak Oil. Wipe on leave on to let dry. Do not wipe off.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought the boat from Mccotters and learned a lot. I don't really have an opinion either way.
Other comments I think most boat owners want a larger boat and my wife and I looked a some other boats this year but we just could not justify spending the money on a larger boat and decided to upgrade ours at a fraction of the cost of upgrading. We love ARR ESCAPE !
