Review of the Hunter 25 by Tod Estes

Year built 2006
Location of boat Oologah, Oklahoma.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I was looking for a trailerable boat and this certainly fit the bill.
Gear that's been added Outlets, Radio, solar charger, grill, spreader lights. Spare tire /hub to trailer with locks.
Structural or complex improvements Elevated Jib sheet cams on one inch risers topped with padeyes. Lowered table in cabin to useable level. Added tiller to outboard for low speed manuvering. Added pipe spacers and bolts to the forward rudder head plates. Added washers with a bolt through the main sheve to secure the pin.
The boat's best features In a word EASY. Easy to: trailer, step mast, rig, unload from trailer, sail singlehanded or with crew, easy to load on trailer.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. My h25 has a wheel. Where the steering linkage meets the rudder head plate is a weak area that will bend. I wish anyone had told me this before I bent mine. The mast crutch / tiller bolts in this space, with that piece missing it does not allow the transfer of torque to the rudder in a even manner. When this is bent it is very very difficult to replace the mast crutch. I now have pipe spacers and bolts to reinforce this area. The mainsail sheve had a hollow pin that I found to be backing out of the masthead, this is back in place and secured with stainless washers and bolt.
Sailing characterisitcs Heavy weather helm. Carries lots of weight aft, moving weight forward helps to balance the helm well.
Motoring characterisitcs Using 9.8 Tohatsu with remote controls, added a simple tiller for low speed manuvering. Some prop walk. Motors well in forward and in reverse.
Liveability Its a good weekender. The marine head option is a must. The door dose not open all the way. due to hitting the cabin stairs. But that is a minor issue. Room for a family of 4. Access to the aft berth is tight. Roomy V berth.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I called once, they advised me to deal with dealer.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Redbud Marina in Oologah OK. is great to work with.
