Review of the Hunter 216 by Lee Carroll

Year built 2006
Location of boat Morehead City
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. It is a super day sailer; very responsive. Most of my sailing is day sailing. This boat is easy to trailer, relatively easy to rig and de-rig. (I can do both by myself.) I had a Hunter 240 prior to this boat, and the H216 is much easier to prepare to sail and to get on the trailer at the end of the day. The boat is large enough for several adults to move around in the cockpit, and there is no bunk for the centerboard which is nice for those of us with big feet.
Gear that's been added Depth meter.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Fairly easy to rig and de-rig. Very large, roomy cockpit. Good amount of room for storage. Lead centerboard provides stability. Large enough to be a dry boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No problems.
Sailing characterisitcs Moves well in light wind.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 5hp Tohatsu that is fine.
Liveability N/A
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Experience was so-so. I got the boat I wanted at a reasonable price.
