Review of the Hunter 216 by Ray Taylor

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes  
Gear that's been added A 4 to 1 inside the boom outhaul, a better jiffy reefing system,a 4 to 1 cunningham adjuster and a stern boarding ladder. When I bought it there was already a boom kicker and vang. I reinstalled the adjustable topping lift to add stability to the boom when the boat has been secured for the night. I made a canvas bridle to steady the forstay with roller furler so it wouldnt oscilate in strong winds while on the trailer.  
Structural or complex improvements The most complex was the outhaul installed in the boom. This allowes me to tighten and relax the tension on the foot of the sail when appropriate. It was a good winter project.  
The boat's best features A very large cockpit for racing or daysailing.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Water leakage into the cabin during a rainstorm despite a mast boot, filling the sail track with silicone and making a new hatchboard from plywood. The original boards were warped. I will continue to work on this as I get new ideas.  
Sailing characterisitcs For a boat marketed as a daysailor this boat really sparkles on the race course. We have a mixed fleet on the lake and it is very competive with flying scots, a J22 a Highlander. WE have other boats but these are the fastest. While going to windward it has been able to outpoint all af these boats. A tuned rig makes all of the differance.  
Motoring characterisitcs It does what it is supposed to without fuss. It has a Nisson 4 hp 4 stroke.  
Liveability Its a daysailor.
