Review of the Hunter 31 by Sammy Fu

Year built 2007
Location of boat Hong Kong
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitely yes, if only regarding to the performance of the boat.
Gear that's been added S1 Wheel pilot, ST60 plus Wind & Depth with in-hull transducer.
Structural or complex improvements Going to install 2 x 50W solar panel on the Arch.
The boat's best features With traveler on arch and deep keel, she sails up to 25 deg close to wind nicely. She makes more than 7 knots with 11.8 knots apparently wind by reaching.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. There must be something wrong with their manufacturing procedure. The boat was shipped out without CO2 fire extinguishing system, no transom shower, leakage of icebox, broken bilge pump, no cockpit table, and some minor items which were re-fitted later locally. I finally got my boat two months after delivery.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat sails much better upwind than downwind.
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar 3YM20 drives 6.8 knots at 2500rpm.
Liveability It is not a good season to "live in" during hot/wet Summer, but it would be fine in Winter.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No such experience.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The local dealer does provide prompt and positive responses to all defects.
Other comments In view of "price for value", it is a good option for such size boat.
