Review of the Hunter 240 by Kelly Smith

Year built 2004
Location of boat Georgia
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No, I love the boat and it was great to learn on, but I now wish I would of purchased a bigger boat due to the limited cabin room, and the extensive amount of time I use it for overnighting.
Gear that's been added The boat was purchased with most options such as bimini, fabric interior, compass, and stern rail seating.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Easy to single hand. Does well in foul weather.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I do not like the placement of the battery. It's too hard to get in and out or hook up for a recharge. The porta-pottie location is in bow is difficult to access and can't be used if someone is using the berth. The rudder repair is a hassle if the line breaks.
Sailing characterisitcs Performs marginally in light winds for a smaller boat, needs 8 knots or better to get up and running reasonably well.
Motoring characterisitcs Good performance even in good chop.
Liveability Good for 2-4 day trips if you have access to restroom and shower facilities. Interchangeable cockpit/cabin table is great for enjoyment of cockpit seating and use while anchored. Lighting and storage space ample. Ventillation can be improved greatly with the use of a couple of small fans.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Helpful.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Dealer went out of business shortly after purchase. Delivery and set up was acceptable.
Other comments The boat is great, I have developed brand loyalty and plan on buying a bigger Hunter soon.
