Year built 2003
Location of boat Shenandoah Valley
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, absolutely.
Gear that's been added We added a 2-horse Honda outboard motor to get out of marinas. It works great even with four people going upstream against tidal flow in Maine.
Structural or complex improvements None.
The boat's best features The open transom is very handy for swimming. It's wonderful in that way. The hull-rigging combination is very well balanced. There's no weather helm to fight. We trailer the boat with each use. The trailer and boat are light and flow along without lateral sway. Perhaps the long trailer tongue is the factor there. The rigging is easy to put up and take down. The boat is very responsive in light winds. You move along even when the apparent wind is less than 2 MPH. I really like the feel of it in stronger winds of 5-to-15 MPH. It feels fun and fast.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No problems detected.
Sailing characterisitcs We've taken the boat out on lakes in the Virginia Piedmont, coastal waters of Maine, and the Potomac River near Washington, DC. Responsive in light air. Steady in stronger winds. The hull is tender in moderate-to-heavy winds. It gives you a small-boat feel for needing to move to the windward side. I like that because it keeps you atuned to sailing and weather. It's not a boat that keeps you separated from nature.
Motoring characterisitcs The 2-horse Honda is sufficient to go upstream against tidal outflow. Steerage is true.
Liveability Daysail only.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) NA
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any None
Other comments It's fun. Hope you have fun with whatever you buy.
