Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. It's a lot of boat for the money, and a lot of fun to sail. It's also big enough to camp out in (we have not yet, but some day), or to have friends out with us. I moved up from a 21 foot boat, and it's a world of difference.
Gear that's been added I found that the hatch leaks, so I added a hatchcover. I had to install the snaps, which was easy enough. That's it, other than a standard issue Jack Rackham. =)
Structural or complex improvements Just the hatch cover on the companionway hatch. The hatch under the seat in the cockpit also has a leak... Probably just needs a new gasket. I have it covered at present, and will fix it in the offseason.
The boat's best features The comfort level is the most appealing aspect. It's got enough creature comforts to please both my wife and myself. It's also an easy boat to single-hand.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I had a t-toggle break on one of the turnbuckles... It bent while I was raising the mast and then broke clean when I attempted to tune the rig. Easy enough to replace once I got the part. The sink was also leaking due to a crack in the plumbing... That was easily fixed with some crack sealant. Leaky hatches. My last Boat had a tiller-tamer. I have not added one yet, but I probably will soon... I single-hand the thing a lot and it's nice to be able to let go of the tiller occasionally.
Sailing characterisitcs Like many of the reports I had read about the boat, I thought that it was a bit tender at first. First few times I went out I was repeatedly checking the ballast tank to make sure it still had water in it. But the boat has gotten more and more fun to sail as I have gotten used to it. It sails into the wind well.
Motoring characterisitcs Not bad. I have a 9.9HP. It does the job.
Liveability I have not camped out on it yet, but it seems to have plenty of room if I ever decide to.
