Review of the Hunter 29.5 by john

Year built 1995
Location of boat BC canada
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? absolutly. We love.It is the perfect size for two people. We just went to the boat show and didn't see anything we liked better. More expencive, yes!
Gear that's been added propane stove and oven.BBQ,gauges for batteries two golf cart batteries. dodger, bus heater.dinghy.previous owner added a Cambell sail prop (definately worth the money). A straitcut loose foot main (reduced roach),A little slower but easier for my wife to sail.
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features Spacious and light handles easily with one or two on deck. I'm starting to like the fractional rig but would like a bigger headsail.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. acryic opening port window has been broken and are hard to find.(In Canada maybe?) had to repair a few blisters in the hull,no big deal. The shore power connection on the boat corroded on the backside where you can't see it.and caused a fire. $13,000 a lot of smoke damage. Have been advised to change the plug every two to three years. wish I knew that before. All has been repaired and the boat is better than ever.
Sailing characterisitcs sails well, reef early for best handeling. It's not a race boat. Mainsail is a bit tough to raise, if the dogs aren't lubricated.
Motoring characterisitcs motors well, slight vibration, It is a two cyl diesel. Back up like a dream with the three blade Cambell sail prop.
Liveability My wife and I have lived on it for a week of holidays and only had one fight. It didn't have anything to do with the boat.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I was in contact with them for questions at the start and found them very helpful.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Very helpful until the check was signed. would I buy though them again. Probably they didn't lie about anything, and were generally good.
Other comments I think the new ones look generally cheaper with the plastic laminate floor.Less maintenance I guess.
