Review of the Hunter 27_89-94 by Mark Goodwin

Owner bought the boat in 1990  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? If I could turn back the clock, I would still buy my Hunter 27. I have sailed our Hunter for 17 years now and truly love the way it handles. It is a good sailing boat, good in heavy air and not bad in light.  
Gear that's been added We have added spinnaker gear, a headfoil, and a traveler.  
Structural or complex improvements We added the traveler, but no other complex changes.  
The boat's best features After sailing/racing our boat for 17 years it is still in really great shape. We have sailed our boat in the waters around Port Arthur, Tx, Galvestine Bay, ouside of Baltimore and now on a lake in north Texas. Seventeen years of sailing, and nearly 800 miles of racing and she is still sailing well. Best experience was an off shore race in 1994 we sailed in and won.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The main sheet system, does not work well and breaks. That is the first thing we changed on the boat.  
Sailing characterisitcs The Hunter 27 is a great sailing boat. It handles well up wind with a traveler to trim the main with. Heavy air or light it sails well. Loves to run down wind with a chute.  
Motoring characterisitcs Once I moved to my current motor Honda 9.9 motoring became a non issue.  
Liveability Only time we do anything down below is truly during big regattas and we drink too much to drive home.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Yes a few times when I needed a part or two and they were great. Even when we brought our boat, the dealer messed up the bottom paint and when out of business. Hunter stepped in and fixed the bottom.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any They went out of business the day after we had our boat deliveried.
