Review of the Hunter 23.5 by Vince Gibson

Year built 1994
Location of boat Temple, GA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. The boat is great for day sailing and is big enough for overnight sleep aboards.
Gear that's been added I wanted the 260 but could not afford it, so I added dual axles to the trailer, stern rail seats, bimini etc. to make it more comfortable.
Structural or complex improvements No.
The boat's best features The water ballast makes it a great trailerable. Light on the trailer and competant on the water. It can be a little tender in big wind, but just reff or spill out some wind on the main and you are fine. The boat also looks good. I get a lot of complements from passers by.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The boom mount is pretty low on the mast, so when I put the bimini on it prevents you from standing while in the cockpit. The boat was not designed for a bimini apparently. Again, I would have gotten a 260 if I could have afforded it.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails fine. Everything works as it should.
Motoring characterisitcs I put a 8 hp four stroke on it and it moves quite well. 7 knts with half throttle.
Liveability Fine for two people overnight.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have not delt with them directly.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private seller.
Other comments Well built boat. Thoughtfully engineered. Attractive. Functional.
