Review of the Hunter 146 by Charles Northrop

Year built 2006
Location of boat Orange Beach, Al
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably. I also own a Catalina 14.2 a very similar boat, and I'm not sure which one I like best.
Gear that's been added Not yet. Probably add a mast float, since I have "turtled the Catalina.
Structural or complex improvements Changed the mainsheet jam cleat so it would release upward. As delivered it released down, which was not good for releasing the sheet quickly!!!
The boat's best features Roomy cockpit; responsive boat, easy sailor; sails well with just mainsail.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing yet, except the mainsheet jam cleat was upside down?
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well with just mainsail. No more tippy than expectd. Good in light winds.
Motoring characterisitcs No motor. "real" sailors don't use motors? Have a collapsible paddle, and sculling will probably work in/
Liveability NA
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have not.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any OK
Other comments Uphaul and downhaul on rudder tends to fray lines. So does the outhaul bracket.
