Review of the Hunter 26.5 by Ed

Year built 1987
Location of boat mosquito Lake, Ohio
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? absolutely. This boat is an awsome performer. Also very comfortable to sit at the mooring on. Well designed for single-handed sailing.
Gear that's been added Added a hinged maststep so I could raise and lower mast myself. Works great. Will be adding more genoa tracks aft of the existing ones. Currently use the aft deck mounted block to control the 135 furling jib.
Structural or complex improvements Will be adding more width to the interior seats so that the cushions don't move around under sail. Also made a riser for the toilet, original position too low.
The boat's best features Rear entry, points very well, very easy to sail competitively.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. interior steps take up too much room. Cushions always on floor after a day's sailing. Existing genoa track too short for 135.
Sailing characterisitcs From no wind to gusting @ 35 knots. Love this boat.
Motoring characterisitcs Seems OK. Have had no problems leaving mooring or docking. Cables on electric start Nissan don't let me easily tilt motor, so there is a lot of drag while sailing.
Liveability Good for 2 weekending. Would prefer enclosed head, but current position works,
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Called several times and had good response. Same with e-mail.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from private owner.
Other comments Just a great boat for it's size. I move it around on a trailer. It's as big as I'd go.
