Review of the Hunter 33_77-83 by Jack Martin - a.k.a. Okiman

Year built 1978
Location of boat Okinawa, Japan
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I certainly would.
Gear that's been added New Harken jib furler, dodger and main sail.
Structural or complex improvements From July 2005 - September 2006, I conducted a complete overhaul and renovation. - Replaced all ports - Installed new head - Removed and reconditioned engine - Rewired the boat and engine compartment - Installed new mahogany flooring in the cabin - Installed new jub furler - Reinforced bow with SS plate - Installed new custom cleats and bow bollar - Replaced all hoses to include engine exhaust - Repainted enterior to include bulkheads
The boat's best features The price of these boats are usually very affordable for the DIY guy. For a 33' boat, provides a fair amount of storage, and excellent head room.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have rebuilt/renovated the whole boat so I have fixed everything or made it better than new.
Sailing characterisitcs This boat tracks very well and the sail plan is balanced so they require very little correction at the helm once you get the sails set right.
Motoring characterisitcs These boats are not power boats. The engine on my boat is the original Yanmar and performs well for a small engine. Engine is very accessable.
Liveability I haven't lived on it so I can't fairly comment at this time.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought boat from a friend
