Year built 1995
Location of boat Bayfield, Wi
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutly
Gear that's been added Yes, microwave, electric windlass, davits,
Structural or complex improvements Starboard chainplate deck fitting had been leaking when I purchased the boat. The deck plate hardware through to the inside of the boat is a large stainless rod with a (very large) nut holding it in place. This is visible inside at the settee. The threads had corroded from salt water intrusion. The marina purchased an adjustible wrench about 3 feet long and completed the job. I also had them remove the port side and re seal it as well.
The boat's best features Pure fun and excitement under sail. Spacious down below.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Leaking from wire entrance inside mast at deck, also a couple of ports leaking. I think an electric main halyard winch is needed. Raising the main the can be a workout!
Sailing characterisitcs She sails very well but doesn't like to go on a run. Performs much better on a broad reach than a run. A larger headsail would improve downwind sailing.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 2 bladed prop and performs very well. And like any right hand prop she backs to port when just starting but is corrected after water starts moving past the rudder.
Liveability Great for entertaining and spacious for creature comforts. Aft cabin is nice for an aft cockpit boat.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) My dealings with the factory have always been excellent.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any This boat was purchased used but I purchased 2 boats new from Whitney's Marine in Orange Park Florida. Very professional staff that delivers what they promise, with follow up after the sale.
Other comments I have owned 4 Hunters, a 30' a 35.5, a 410, and now a 40.5. I like Hunters and the support available from dealers and the factory when you need it.
