Review of the Hunter 31 by BURT

Year built 2006
Location of boat LAKE MICHIGAN
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES. IT IS A REAL PERFORMER AND VERSATILE FOR MANY CONDITIONS OF THE SEA AND PERSONAL COMFORT
Gear that's been added CAME VERY WELL EQUIPPED WITH INMAST FURLING AUTOPILOT, RADIOS,MICROWAVE, REFRIGERATOR ETC. I ADDED WIND MACHINE,GARMIN GPS 492, SATELITE RADIO
Structural or complex improvements NONE
The boat's best features PERSONAL COMFORT, PERFORMANCE UNDER MANY DIFFERENT WIND AND SEA CONDITIONS. OPTIMUM USE OF SPACE, QUALITY HARDWARE, ACCESSABILITY TO ENGINE.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. STIFFNESS AND UNEVEN MOVEMENT OF THROTTLE CABLE. TO BE REPLACED THIS WEEK
Sailing characterisitcs CAN HANDLE 20 KNOT WINDS AND 4 FOOT SEAS EASILY. lIGHT WIND PERFORMANCE IS BETTER THAN ADEQUATE. EASY TO SAIL SINGLE HANDED OR WITH NOVICE CREW
Motoring characterisitcs YANMAR 21 HP IS GREAT ENGINE WHICH DRIVES BOAT AT HULL SPEED THROUGH ROUGH WATERS EASILY.
Liveability ACCOMADATIONS FOR TWO IS COMFORTABLE, THOUGH NOT ROOMY GALLEY IS CONVENIENT AND WELL LAID OUT. AFT CABIN ROOMY ENOUGH THOUGH WITH MEMORY FOAM TOPPER--POSSIBLY CUSTOM MATTRESS.COCKPIT IS SPACIOUS ESPECIALLY WITH LEWMAR FOLDING WHEEL. NICE BACK SUPPORT. MOST FREEBOARD I AHVE FOUND IN A BOAT THIS SIZE
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) NOT YET
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any EXCELLENT DEALER WHOSE PREVIOUS REPUTATION LED ME TO HIM. RIVERSIDE MARINE IN RACINE WISCONSIN HAS BEEN MOST PROFESSIONAL AND ATTENTIVE TO MY NEEDS.
