Review of the Hunter 29.5 by Jorge Cela

Year built 1995
Location of boat Kemah, Texas
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes and from the same Hunter dealer.
Gear that's been added ST50 Wind System
Structural or complex improvements Previous owner replaced the original traveler by the right size travelet located over the cabin. This also allowed him to installed a very large bimini over the
The boat's best features The easy handling of her sails. The large and confortable open cabin layout.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Raising the lerge main sail is not an easy task and it requieres a big effort. The plastic dogs holding the sail to the mast, do not run easy on its track and they get stuck easily. (any one else with similar problem? any suggestion about what to do to solve this problem)
Sailing characterisitcs Sailing under light summer winds is a perfect condition for her. She is fast with light winds and with less than 10 knots of wind can easily get up to 5 knots of speed.
Motoring characterisitcs Not much motoring, but I have a vibration when turning between 1400 and 1800 RPM. I have a three blade propeller in fair shape and it should not be a reason for the vibration. (Has anyone experienced similar problem with this boat?)
Liveability Plenty room for daily sailing for 6 to 8 people. To stay overnight maybe good for 3 to 4 good friends.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Although I bought a used boat I was able to talk with Hunter's engineers about the problem with the vibration on the engine/shaft system and they were very willing to help trouble shooting the problem.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought my used Hunter from the Hunter dealership in Kemah, Texas, Ship and Sails, and I have a superb experience with them as far as taking care of all the details in a used boat including realigning the engine and correcting rigging problems that probably came with the boat when new from the factory.
