Review of the Hunter 29.5 by Chris Lindsay

Year built 1995
Location of boat West Coast of Florida
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I would. It's a great boat with lots of room for daysailing and maybe spending a night or two.
Gear that's been added Have added at new GPS (Garmin 180). In the process of dealing with changing out the portlights from those sucky plastic/acrylic ones to chrome/glass ones. Will also add a stereo with CD player soon.
Structural or complex improvements Have made no improvements. Not enough experience with the boat yet. I'm thinking that the portlight changes could be considered 'complex'...
The boat's best features Open salon area. Lots of room in the aft berth.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We bought the boat used. Either the previous owner worked all of the original issues out, or things just started off real nice. One comment: The speedo on the Tridata unit hasn't worked since day one. Don't know if that was a standard item or not.
Sailing characterisitcs Our boat seems to have LOTS of weather helm. Trying to figure out why, since there doesn't seem to be many issues related to this. Any suggestions?
Motoring characterisitcs Motors great! Took advice on the 2200RPM maximum before overheating and haven't had any problems at all. Reverse has absolutely no directional stability at all, as usual I guess.
Liveability Haven't tried. Great for a coupla nights.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No dealings directly with Hunter.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Carson Yachts, Palmetto, FL. Yeah, they sold me the boat.
