Review of the Hunter 170 by Scott Bell

Year built 2005
Location of boat California
The boat is sailed on Rivers
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, tried the 146 and it was really tippy made getting in and out difficult, seems to be made for racers and kids...
Gear that's been added Spinnaker, mast float.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Any breeze move this boat, in higher winds with 500lbs. in the center of the boat there is very little spray.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs Reversing under emergency power can be a very wet experience due to the wide open transom. Following waves can some times rush in almost to the centerboard.
Liveability I am going to try to sleep on boar while Gunkholing this summer. I will NOT forget a mosquito net.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The dealer was a bit inexperienced with selling the smaller boats to individuals(fleet sales I don't know) I bought it in November and still(now June) haven't recieved the trailer plates. The salesman was a racing sailor and came out to my area a hour long drive to show me how to set up the rigging and raise the mast, and took us out on the water to demonstrate the spinnaker.
