Gear that's been added No. Eventually a T.V., GPS, and Radar. Perhaps a GenSet.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Motoring and Sailing the boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We are having to replace the thru hull valves. The handles on 2 of 6 separated from the valve assembly. You would think they would last longer than 2 years. The Raymarine knot meter/log has never worked according to the original owner. I can attest it does not work today. However, the depth meter works fine. Windlass has not worked since we purchased the boat from the original owner in July 2005. Stress cracks are appearing on all four corners of the boat. Topside has gotten dulll dispite the fact we have had the boat detailed (waxed) every 4 month. Original owner had only waxed boat 1 time but again you would think the luster would come back. There are other boats (catalina and Beneteau) in our marina that shine up nicely and they are older.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails great. Mostly sail with the jib. Motors smoothy. Responds great. Really gets up and scoots on a run and quite nicely in a reach.
Motoring characterisitcs Quick start. Runs quietly when underway. Has a 3 blade prop. The boat does not have enough power to back out of our slip when the tide is running (falling) fast.
Liveability Comfortable for the 2 of us. Agree if 4 were on board then you be family or darn close. Cabin is quite noisy and could be better sound proofed especialy at dock. Head is tight. This boat has more and more storage than we can fill up. Wish lockers were a little bigger.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Whitney Marine--EXCELLENT sales and OUTSTANDING Service and Parts DEPT. Hunter Marine -- hard to get a repsonse.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought the boat from the original owner.
Other comments We owned a 1985 Hunter 40 previously. We loved that boat and it lead us to buying a 2nd Hunter. For the money you can not buy a better or more boat, our opinion but it is the only one that matters. See ya on the ICW and Bahamas and Caribbean.
