Review of the Hunter 44 by Brian Hanna

Year built 2005
Location of boat LaSalle, Mi
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it has been an excellent boat.
Gear that's been added The Hunter dingy davit system, Raymarine C-series GPS/Radar, full cockpit enclosure, cockpit cushions, verical battens, Maxprop and 7001 autohelm. It also came with the "Mariner's package" which included windlass, roller furling main, electric halyard winch, 3 burner stove, dual zone heat/air, etc.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features The utilization of space. They really pack a lot of value in the space
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs It sails very nicely. I love the line it cuts and the overall performance in almost all wind conditions.
Motoring characterisitcs No problems that we have noticed. After the first season I increased the pitch on the Maxprop to improve the top end speed.
Liveability Very friendly interior. It has all the creature comforts that you would expect and then some. Very nice accommodations to have another couple or the kids friends along for a weekend!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The salesperson was excellent, he really worked with us to get the best deal with the type of equipment we really wanted/needed on the boat. The follow-up on some of the warranty issues has been so/so. There was a recent change in owners, so I hope that any future needs will be better addressed.
