Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, extremely happy with boat. Purchased in March/April of 2005. This is my first sailboat and has been great to learn on. Started out learning proper names of equipment, and the uses of all sheets, lines etc. Ran boat aground first day out, and froze my tale off. After that, docking was a challenge. The tiller is great, always in the way, but good for a beginner. Over the summer, and this mild fall and winter, we were able to use it 2-3 times a week and spent weekends down at Tices shoal in the summer, and went out this weekend, January 28!
Gear that's been added Haven’t added anything major. Added a power inverter to run AC in cabin while staying overnight (for TV and DVD). Boat was well loved by previous owners and I didn’t have to do much. Looking to add new electronics and bimini.
Structural or complex improvements No....
The boat's best features Easy to sail. Being my first boat, I didn’t know anything about sailing. We we took delivery of the boat, I didn’t know what “Any of the ropes” did. Ater receiving a book from my neighbor, I started learning what to call things and found them easy to locate on the Hunter.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Fortunately I haven’t had a problem. As stated, the boat was well loved and in great condition. The bolt for the tiller, I need to drill out a larger hole as there is play in it, electronics need replacement, and minor woodwork.
Sailing characterisitcs Seems to be a great boat for sailing. I need to replace genoa in a year or so. Very easy t handle, but then again, I don’t have much to compare to.
Motoring characterisitcs When I first purchased the boat, we used the motor a lot. Now, I have trouble keeping the batteries charged. Great forward. Backing up, MY GOD, PROP-WALK!
Liveability Three of us sleep on it on the weekends no problem. I’m 6’2 so me and my wife in the v-birth is tough, my daughter and her sleep in there, I sleep on the starboard quarter birth. Head works fine. Galley, I have no complaints. I don’t use the stove, I purchased 2 portable butane ones, much easier.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Yes! I had a few many cocktails, was walking around the deck, tripped and went to grap a stanchion when the lifeline was not attached. Me, the stanchion, sunglasses, cell phone and cocktail went swimming. I called hunter to purchase new one. They were very helpful, however, I had it welded locally. Sunglasses, cell phone and cocktail, no help with them.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Great boat. Looking to step up to a Hunter 32-34.
