Review of the Hunter 260 by Jay Smith

Year built 2003
Location of boat Seneca Lake, New York
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, without a doubt. It has more room than most 26' boats and we can lunch and retrieve our selves. The quaility is excellent. My wife and I spend every summer weekend on the boat.
Gear that's been added Yes, we added an electric cooler and shore power.
Structural or complex improvements We changed the jam cleates for the jib. They were the poorest part of the boat. The other problem area is the rudder holding it down. We will make the change that was outlined in the forum.
The boat's best features The interior room and the way it sails in all types of wind.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing has broken. Only problems were previosly mentioned.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat sails well in all weather, but is tender.
Motoring characterisitcs We tied the Mercury 9.9 motor to the rudder and have no problems motoring.
Liveability We live on the boat every weekend from May to November and feel it is very comfortable. We own a houseboat for our grown kids and their families and prefer the sailboat for us.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) We picked up the boat directly from the plant and had only minor problems that were taken care of immediately.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The deal was a friend in another state, who was most helpfull when needed.
Other comments This boat has lived up to our highest expectations by doing everything they said it would do and everything we thought it would.
