Review of the Hunter 280 by Robert Davidson

Owner bought the boat in 1997  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely.  
Gear that's been added Spinnaker, Bimini.Lazy Jack is on the way.Installing stereo later this month.  
Structural or complex improvements Nope.  
The boat's best features Cockpit is great.I like the electrical panel in line of sight with the cockpit, also.The mid-boom traveler and main, combined with no backstay is great.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Running wiring wasn't the easiest.Hatchboard storage will become an eyesore after a while. Scratches on the wood and the gelcoat above it.  
Sailing characterisitcs The shoal keel was a need for our lake. The lake filled early before most trees were cut, so there is a lot under the water to bounce off of. It seems that the shorter keel is very skittish in gusty weather.The boat powers up nicely with steady wind.  
Motoring characterisitcs The 18hp Yanmar is pretty nice.Reverse is squirrelly until you get some momentum going.  
Liveability The boat is very comfortable below. There is no problem spending time on the boat. We have already gotten in the habit of working one night during the week on the boat, just tinkering around.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have not dealt with Hunter at all, yet.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any La Vida Starships in Lewisville, Texas, sold me the boat. The pricing was a full package. They did not sell me a boat, and then talk me out of another $X,000 in dock lines, upgrades, and other essentials.When little issues came up, they went out to my marina and fixed them promptly. They were also helpful with advice on performance and maintenance issues.
