Review of the Hunter 420 by annon.

The boat's best features We usually spend weekends on the boat with wife & 3 small children as well as other friends or family and The amount of space on the boat is amazing. She is quick, easy to handle and even comfortable in rough weather. Master stateroom is massive. Sun deck & large cockpit also give us room to have a dozen people on the boat comfortably. With our family of 5, the boat gives everyone more than enough room. Sails very well in light air, which surprised me with small jib. Tacking might be a chore with 3 kids & wife, but my 9 year old daughter can trim in the jib on a tack due to the small jib size and easy transit across the deck. Really very easy boat to enjoy.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Sea strainer for genset was ridiculously small, clogged a few times & cost me quite a bit in repair bills to get all of impellers out of cooling system. Really no excuse for the toy strainer they used here. very difficult to handle in a marina with windy conditions due to very, very high windage. This is the price one pays for the massive aft state room. cockpit table not very good.  
Sailing characterisitcs Heaviest sail was close hauled in 30 knots steady wind, gusting to 35 or so with 8' seas. Reefed main a little and sailed on with no problems at all. Really handled well, but we were in somewhat protected waters, so I can't really say how she would handle in big seas. She's fine in light air.  
Motoring characterisitcs fine under power, backs OK  
Liveability Exceptional.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Not very impressed. Great help at times, other times, I can't get anyone to give an answer at all. I think they want to do well, but just don't have the time to take care of everyone.
