Review of the Hunter 380 by sparky lerner

Year built 2002
Location of boat hampton, va
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, definately! love the attention to detail that helps to keep my wife happy.
Gear that's been added windvane, autopilot, radar, davits, full canvas enclosure, dinghy, roller furl head and main sails, chartplotter.
Structural or complex improvements none.
The boat's best features the cockpit. i am a cruiser and this boat is laid out to entertain and that is what we do. we cruised with 3 couples and had plenty of room in the cockpit. my old boat would ahve been too cramped. ease of handling sails with autopilot. i run this yacht by myself and it is a real pleasure. did i mention i love this boat?
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. storage is less than i would have desired. aft cabin is small but i understand the cockpit is the root cause and therefore accept it the way it is.
Sailing characterisitcs points great. handles the way i like. a great yacht for this time in my life.
Motoring characterisitcs motors at 7 knots with 2800rpm. very acceptable!
Liveability cramped living quarters in bow and aft cabin, however, the salon is very liveable when the table is lowered and made into a comfortable couch. our whole family can lay on it and watch tv or just chill out.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) no dealings.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any nortons yacht sales, deltaville, va. very nice people to deal with. look forward to buying a 44ds in the next 4 or 5 years.
Other comments did i mention i love it?
