Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Donald

Year built 1981
Location of boat Azel TX.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I would buy this boat again. Because I was told by several people it was the right size boat to learn on. Also I can still take it to the Gulf to do some coastal sailing, as I progress and learn more about sailing. This to me is the perfect boat, I feel totally safe and at ease. How ever I have found last weekend I am not as fortunate with the sails being forgiving. I was told I now belong to the elite club. A group of sailors that call themselves the BAT club. (Bout another thousand $) Very elite club. No kidding I learned a very valuable lesson last Saturday. One I will not forget, or do again.
Gear that's been added I bought a new 4 stroke engine got rid of the two stroke, just to stop the pollution. I have ordered new windows and ordered new paint. I have also installed new life lines. I completely refinished the interior and the wood work looks beautiful. Now I know what a beautiful boat this was when delivered in 1981. Someone was very happy.
Structural or complex improvements I am in the process of looking into changing my boom and reconfiguring my attachment point on the mast to give me more boom footage and more leach and luff. I know a foot both ways doesn't sound like much, but if it is another knot and a half heading to the Keys or Mexico next year out of Corpus Christi, it will be worth it
The boat's best features Sorry no commet here I have never owned a boat before of any kind. Never sailed or been to school yet. Next week I start.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The only problem I have encountered is the outboard mount. Seems it was installed just a little to low the motor wooden block drags in the water. However I have re-modified the engine mount . I left it in the original mounting position from the factory but I simply adjusted the amount of drop into the water. Works great.
Sailing characterisitcs very forgiving
Motoring characterisitcs I have a little problem backing out of my slip. the rudder do not seem to respond very well.
Liveability A little small but enjoyable for now till i move up into a larger boat.
