Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1995
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitely. For the type of sailing we do, it is the perfect boat for us. We do most of our sailing in the intracoastal waters, and with the shoal draft, we can tack out of the channel without any problems. It is very comfortable for short cruises, and handles well while sailing or motoring. What attracted us most to the 280 was the walkthru transom, swim platform, and sternrail seats. Also, we liked the wide steps leading down the companionway.
Gear that's been added We purchased hull #2, one of the two prototypes, so it already had alot of extras on it, but we did add a bimini and transition piece from bimini to dodger which help keep the sun and rain out and helps keep the cockpit cleaner. We also added lazy jacks for the mainsail. We had screens made for the entire cockpit area for the mosquito season. We had a solar vent fan installed on the hatch window.
Structural or complex improvements The only complex thing we did was to add an external speaker for the VHF, which really isn't so complex, you might think, but trying to snake the wire through from the instrument panel atop the companionway to the control panel where the Vhf is located was most difficult. It is not a straight shot.
The boat's best features This boat is easy and fun to sail. It responds well , is easy to manuver. It has all the comforts of home for cruising. The interior is roomy and bright.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. As mentioned before, when adding instrument to the instrument panel , snaking the wires through the conduit is difficult. Other than that, I think most of problems have been electrical, but there have been relatively few
