Review of the Hunter 280 by David

Owner bought the boat in FL.Y  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes and No. We should of locked for bigger Boat, but for beginners like us it is a great Boat.  
Gear that's been added Autohelm St-50 Plus Depth, St-50 Plus Speed/Log and a Autohelm St 4000 we also installed a Schaefer Lazy Jack System. Florida is pretty hot and humid, so we purchased a portable Cruise Air. It workes very good on those humid nights.  
Structural or complex improvements NO  
The boat's best features easy to Sail great for beginners  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Leaky Macerator Pump,very bad oder from Motor compartment Diesel smell has no out side vent. So we put avent with Motor from the little cut out in the main Berth above Tank and a Pipe through the back Window the Motor runs when we are in Dock.That solved the problem.The other problem what stunk up Boat was a cracked pump cylinder in the Head talk about a sewer smell. itt Jabsco took good care of us .Hunter was not very helpful. every thing is ok now.  
Sailing characterisitcs Does not sail good in a light breeze  
Motoring characterisitcs Much less vibration since we switched to Amsoil  
Liveability ok for a few Days no longer then a Week  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) not so good you are sent from one Person to a nother and everybody puts the blame on somebody else. we filled out a Questionnaire and we listed some of the problames we where having .So we got call from Hunter, asking us about the Boat never saying anything about the problems we had listed. When i mentioned the problemes he got very short and quickley said good by. His Name was Vincent. Florida Yacht
