Review of the Hunter 170 by Robert Entel

Year built 2005
Location of boat Assonet, Massachusetts
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I would buy this boat again. It is nicely made and service has been friendly and prompt
Gear that's been added No
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Large seating area. Although it is a tender boat and prefers lighter winds, it performs well in light to moderate winds.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. no problems so far
Sailing characterisitcs If you want to sail relatively flat, you must reef early. This usually means no jib-but the boat will still perform well. It is quick handeling. I came from a 27 foot keelboat. If you made a mistake it was no big deal. On this boat a mistake will be felt instantly, such as an accidental jibe.
Motoring characterisitcs Moves very well with a Honda 2 hp.
Liveability NA
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Excellent. They answer the phone and they really know what they are talking about and semm to care.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Excellent. They took one and a half hours going over the set-up and rigging.
Other comments Nice quality and light scratches will buff out with cleaner-wax.
