Sailing characterisitcs Overall handles well, we kindly refer to her as "the family condo". Still sailing with the original sails - now 10 yrs.old. Upwind 12-16kts. she'll do in the 6's. Boat loves to reach, beam to broad is best, and with an asymetrical pretty lively. Further downwind, the 100% jib is shadowed by the huge main, I enjoy trying to sail it wing/wing with the jib or asymetrical. I just keep the boom out as far as the speaders allow and steer dead downwind. I have the pedestal traveler, and I love to solo sail, I'll trim the jib from the spinnaker winches. With the B&R rig - no backstay - I am keenly aware of preventing an accidental gybe _ with the boom end sheeting i can just see the pedestal flying off in the wrong conditions< although its handled some pretty tough ones up til now with no apparent wear and tear or failure
Motoring characterisitcs Boat is powered correctly with Yanmar27. Handles great, plenty of speed, backing with the 3 blade Maxprop is a dream. My next door neighbor in the marina has a Hunter 28 with the standard 2 blade - he crabwalks horribly.
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Never have, would like to order the newer Stern seats without the teak, but with the cupholders, I think they are the same size on the Hunter326 or the new 340. other than the center hatchboard its the only external teak on the boat.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Had purchased a 2000 Hunter290 at the Sail Expo in Atlantic City, was told it would arrive in Got a call from local dealer while on vacation in Pompano, FL. in March, telling me boat wouldn't arrive from factory until mid-July, not their fault. So, went to some newstands and went boat shopping and found the H336 at Florida Yacht in Miami. Ended up with a well optioned out larger boat for the same price. Previous owner traded in that February at Miami boat show on Hunter 46. Went back in April for Survey. They were fair, boat was decommissioned and loaded onto semi properly. arrived in NJ in good shape, would have loved to sail it up, oh well. An overall good experience.
