Review of the Hunter 146 by Matt McGarry

Year built 2004
Location of boat jamesport, NY
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? So far, great boat. Finally got her out this weekend. Sunday was heavy winds, was solo for a few hours, handled great (did not have jib out) never was concerned about tipping. Picked up the wife off the beach and we sailed for a good hour, very comfy cockpit, lines are easy to reach, easy to sail. Monday was lighter winds, had the jib out..great day. Only time you and crew have to be careful is when there is no wind, its a bit weebley/wobbly, but again its a daysailor with no weighted keel~! Will report again when i have more NM's under her.
Gear that's been added 2.5 Tohatsu, motor mount, bottom paint, sail cover..I am lucky to be able to leave it at a dock. Will be adding a Top lift or boom kicker and a tiller device for keeping it straight when i go forward
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features cost, reliability, easy to sail
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. none so far
Sailing characterisitcs see above
Motoring characterisitcs just fine, it is a little further back than most boats, but really not a big deal
Liveability n/a
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Dinghy Shop (amityville) great folks down there. Some mis-communication with regards to the boat/trailer registration process, other than that they are great, will be buying more boats from them!!
