Review of the Hunter 19_93-96 by Frank C. Pain

Year built 1993
Location of boat Spokane Washington
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? In a heart beat! This boat is perfect for learning sailors out for day sailing or weekends.
Gear that's been added VHF radio, depth sounder and additional safety gear will be added this year.
Structural or complex improvements I plan to add a "small" nav/galley station on the port side near the existing galley. A semi nav. panel/bulkhead will be installed (under the companionway) to add cruising capablity to her.
The boat's best features For a 19 foot boat, the cabin is has a lot of room, very easy to rig (Two people in ten minutes!), simple to launch and recover, light trailering wieght, NO BACK STAY, and water ballast system...
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Rudder contacting prop if not careful and cabin lighting a little troublesom.
Sailing characterisitcs Will heal over in strong puffs (I found this out my second time out, good life lines!) Easy to sail in moderate winds, suggest reefing when weather turns sour. Beginning sailors will enjoy her simple sheets running to the cockpit.
Motoring characterisitcs Doesn't take much power from my 7.5 Honda outboard to get her going. Small turning radius, great for tight marinas or busy docks.
Liveability For two or three adults for a weekend adventure should not be a problem (solution: sail with good friends!) Four adults sleeping is max. but why over due it? On longer trips (say a week or more) it would be feasible to have 1 or 2 to sail with you provided lugage is kept to a minimum. Some may find liveablity to be a bit cramped, others may find it comfortable...
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have yet to contact them...
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought my boat from SAIL NORTHWEST (Bob Cordes) in Coure d'Alene, ID and he was "VERY" helpful in providing assistance with "ALL" my questions and constant visiting to find that "perfect" sailboat. A true sailor and professional.
