Review of the Hunter 36 by Captain Verd

Year built 2004
Location of boat Chesapeake Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. And from the same dealer. Norton's Yacht Sales, Deltaville, VA
Gear that's been added Got most of the options except I should have included a windlass and genset. I added a Chartplotter, radar and whatever the budget will permit.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Easy to singlehand (sheet winches to stern, traveler overhead with port and access literally at your finger tips), headroom below for a 6+ footer like me, boom room topside for a 6+ footer like me, ample cockpit space for to crash on at anchor, nice practical appointments all over this little sailboat and you gotta love the Hunter Arch. It's barely noticeable until you need it at 20 degrees.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The proctective substance over the decals on the hull are peeling a litte after a year. I can't think of anything else
Sailing characterisitcs Good smooth control throughout transitions
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar 27hp is perfect.
Liveability It's least cramp of any 36. Plenty of room to stretch out. We love it.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Responsive, informative and courteous. Very prone to customer wowing.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any My dealer, Nortons Yacht Sales of Deltaville, VA are simply awesome. They know how to make the best deal possible and they know how to keep you satisfied over the years with great service and response to your needs and questions. I loved working with them.
Other comments Since purchasing the 36 new at the Annapolis Boat Show 03, it has been a love affair in the making me and my SS Americana. Price, comfort, sailability, you name it. HunterMarine makes great boats.
