Review of the Hunter 23 by Dennis Brooks

Year built 1987
Location of boat Tampa Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Great for our needs.
Gear that's been added bimini. If you live in Florida it really helps.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Simple Sailing. Easy to handle with limited crew. Low maintenance.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. If your boat is in the water, it is hard to flush the engine without taking the motor off the bracket. Starboard stern light wiring is very hard to get too. You have to be a small person to slide under cockpit to get to the wiring. No Anchor Light I imagine everyboat has its problems.
Sailing characterisitcs Good sailing. Doesn't point very high. This boat is pretty seaworthy for a 23 foot. I have never raced it but it seems to hang with the other boats of its size in my marina.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 8 horse motor. It has been more than adequate in all the different weather situations we have been in so far.
Liveability We have spent the night several times on our boat. It is ok for a weekend trip. More than a weekend would be roughing it.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I haven't dealt with Hunter yet. I hope I never have too. My boat is in good shape.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments It is a very a nice boat. We have had many fun times sailing it.
