Review of the Hunter 28.5 by Alan Claunch

Year built 1986
Location of boat Coan River Marina (Potomac @ Chesapeake)
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably; however I now have a better understanding of what I think is important proformance and feature wise.
Gear that's been added Lots: new, higher capacity batteries 150% genoa new higher capacity charger Autohelm ST4000 autopilot Boomkicker rigid vang new seacock style thru hulls
Structural or complex improvements Planning on adding more opening ports.Added opening port for water holding tank.
The boat's best features Well built.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Poor battery storage (too small for anything other than the smallest Ah batteries)Fixed ports on cabin very flimsy, leakNo cleanout port for water tank (see above)
Sailing characterisitcs Sails very well and is fast. Stable in blustery conditions.
Motoring characterisitcs Backs terribly but is OK going ahead.
Liveability It's a small boat but OK for 1-2. Ice box is awkward to use as is head shower.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very good; I needed a small part and they were very responsive.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Broker was Trident Yacht Sales in Solomon's and was TERRIBLE. Totally fictitious description of boat's equipment and did not even abide by terms of the contract (boat listed as having AM-FM radio/CD and then owner, via broker, said
