Review of the Hunter 376 by Bob Talley

Year built 1997
Location of boat Georgetown, MD
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. We've had several Hunter's - H25, H27 and H34. This is absolutely the best. This year I thought I would splurge and get a new H38 or H41, but the interiors are not as nice as the H376 (particularly the aft cabin and head). We decided to "stay put" and invest in a few upgrades.
Gear that's been added AC/Heat, refrigerator/freezer, windlass, RF main, dodger/bridge/bimini, 100A Balmar alternator were on the boat when we purchased it. We've added Deka Dominator gel batteries and new ProTech charger, Garmin GPS, inner spring mattress for aft cabin, TV/VCR in aft cabin, teakwood cover for stove and several smaller items. Plan to add all new interior cushions, teak main hatch doors and folding wheel this spring.
Structural or complex improvements None required.
The boat's best features Without a doubt the best feature is the interior volume and layout. Very close behind is the huge cockpit (for entertaining) and the effortless sailing.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Pump failed on AC unit.
Sailing characterisitcs Very fast boat in light to medium air. Points well and is easily controlled by one person. Need to reef before the wind hits 15 knots.
Motoring characterisitcs Excellent. We motor at ~7 knots at 3000 rpm with stock two blade prop. Accelerates well and stops quickly. No problems backing (straight). Good/small turning radius.
Liveability Perfect for two people. We are retired and often spend 7-10 days on board. The aft cabin is great (larger than the newer Hunter 38/41's). Ditto with the head. The salon is also great. Because of the large saloon and large cockpit, this is the "party boat" within our marina. No other boat can provide this comfort. We can easily entertain 8-10 pepople. The galley is also great, particularly the built in trash can (we seem to generate more trash on the boat than we do at home).
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Only on questions via the website. Their response has always been great.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought the boat from Tidewater Marina. They are fantastic (I've been dealing with them since 1977). We've never had a problem they couldn't fix.
Other comments Obviously, we like Hunter's. Every one has been a great boat.
