Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Woodrow Page

Year built 1974
Location of boat forked river nj
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added I have gutted the interior carpeted walls and glued up headliner materials using contact cement. Also added 3" side vents louver vent on companion slats and a 4" cowl vent in the forward compartment. Also added knock down steps to transom for entry w/o ladder.
Structural or complex improvements Not complex but the boat is a convertible model and have used 3m 5200 sealant/chalk to cover a multitude of sins. Also helpful using same around the windows to get a better seal.
The boat's best features The 25 handles well and has a shallow draft which is good for Barnegat bay and stouts creek where I go. These are shallow waters.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Front hatch is weak. and blocks view when up.
Sailing characterisitcs Day sailing to nearby sites have shown the H25 to be a good performer for the money.
Motoring characterisitcs The 9.9 evinrude does the job however there are problems reaching down and coordinating the tiller at the same time. Especially at a strange dock.
Liveability the liveability is spartan but adequate.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Wish they had better support for the older models...
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Brought from Southwinds Marina in Forked River and its all good. Steve Hutler and his staff are outstanding folks. The buying experience and subsequent service were second to none!
Other comments When ready to upgrade will certainly look at another Hunter first.
