Review of the Hunter 35.5 by Ron Fantozzi

Year built 1987
Location of boat Huron, Ohio
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. The boat has great lines and is very easy to sail. It had a few problems which are now fixed. I am going to up grade here shortly.
Gear that's been added No
Structural or complex improvements It had a wet rudder. I dried it out and filled in the rudder and put a complete mlayer of epoxy on the exterior.
The boat's best features She handles great in 15-25 knot winds and in waves upto 8' I have not had her out in heavier weather.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I do not like the sail cover which is attached to the boom. It holds the lazy jacks and when the lake is ruff opening the sail bag before lowering the sail ias not always comfortiable.
Sailing characterisitcs She handles well in all different wind directions. I have a winged keel and it doesn't heel as quickly as the non winged. It turns very easily and is easier to handle underpower in tight spaces.
Motoring characterisitcs She handles good, has enough power, has prop walk to the port.
Liveability There is a lot of storage, plenty of cooler space, and has enough room for six people to eat with comfort. It has good ventilation. The galley has enough room for one person to prepare a meal. The sink could be larger. There is plenty of capacity for carrying water and enough holding tank. A couple could spend a prolong period of time on board.
