Review of the Hunter 326 by Jerome Gilliam

Year built 2003
Location of boat Michigan City IN
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes , with some changes to the electronics and options on board . First I would have liked to have added a chart plotter and the auto pilot that talks to the GPS. These more if the money is right but this one a key the VHF radio that is connected in with GPS AND CAN SEND DISTRESS SIGNAL with location .. a must . Option wise agian more wish list but if you're wishing what the heck , the DVD player with sound system , sound really good on the ones I've been able to experience.
Gear that's been added The new sail N/S came out with for in mast furlers other than that the boat has most everything else to make sailing a breeze so to say Can't say enought about the selden in furling system has made setting sail a real joy
Structural or complex improvements NO still new and learning what she has to offer out of the factory and so far alot more then I would have guess
The boat's best features Sailing comfort, for all types of crew members from the first time on board a sailing vessel to the old salt I've seen that each one is able to find their comfort zone surprized the easy in setting sail and in the performance of the boat. Also we sail with our grand daughters and they're comfortable insome rough conditions that we 've been caught in seas 5 to 6 ft Boat rode the seas with good performance and control at all times I wouldn't have a problem taking her out in those conditions again
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Problems , I beleive the biggest has been the bottom coating , the dealer used a product called skip sand and while it seems easy to apply I've also had the problem of it peeling so for the second year needing touch up also the line for the furler on the main beaking or should I say coming apart and the decals on the side peeling also , becomes I sore , I'm going to see if I can get more from Hunter will let you know that works hopefully well Leak around the main mask at base area , have told dealer about concern will try a new product that has come out called a mast boot seen it in LADS & LATS
Sailing characterisitcs Over all good , remembering that with the B&R rigiing you give up alittle on down wind sailing , but over all when you look at the advanages get in safety and sailing eas and the addition room with the back stay gone it's worth every quarter of a knot and by the way it's not that noticable
Motoring characterisitcs Good I believe the larger motor the 27 hp may have been a better choice but the 18 hp does do an ok job Can't generally get five and one half knots at 2500 rpm which is ok remember it's about the journey that's why we purchase sail boats
Liveability Excellent as I said earlier we take our grandaughters on longer extented sails and I don't care who are when your over 50 and they early teen there has to be room for every body under sail and in port and we have found with the V berth size and the aft berth size and comfort NO problems
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Getting ready to will tell you later
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I hope and I believe they will keep listening to your customers and keep meeting our needs
