Review of the Hunter 33 by Alan Antiporda

Year built 2004
Location of boat Marina Del Rey, CA
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, this boat is definitely a huge step up from my 20-plus foot boats.
Gear that's been added Usual RayMarine ST60 Package, Autohelm, GPS, Bimini, Stern Anchor, Upgraded 29hp Yanmar. In-mast Furling.
Structural or complex improvements None, and hopefully won't have to.
The boat's best features Maneuverability and handling, feels like my smaller boats. Love the Arch and ability to single-hand. Still finding out more...
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. So far, knock on wood, nothing has cropped up, but it has only been a couple of days. Engine isn't overheating like other 2005 33 owners have reported with 5 hours of contimuous use, no shaft whine, no problems furling the main. A little noisy when under power, will check the motor mounts, noticed it got quieter below when my 10 year-old son opened the lockers in the aft cabin. Hmmm...
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well on all points, winds have been 10-12 knots and 1-2ft. seas with 70 degree temp. So not much range of conditions to test yet, but did practice Furling while out, way better than reefing.
Motoring characterisitcs Not much prop walk, but still need to practice moving the boat around, it is definitely long.
Liveability Don't plan to "liveaboard," but for a couple or 3 people, it would be adequate for about a week.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased through H&S Yachts in Marina Del Rey, the team is great, humorous and available. Sales experience was too easy, walkthrough was informative, and initial sail a pleasure. Recommend H&S Yachts, again my humble opinion (MHO)
Other comments Again, it is still early, hopefully I won't have to re-write my review.
