The boat's best features Headroom, Interior layout, size of cockpit. Lots of storage.Walk thru transom made all other designs obsolete over night as far as I'm concerned. The space in the Head is better than some 34s Ive seen. The rear berth layout is such an advance over the quarter berth of yesterday. I cant believe that some builders (Beneteau) are still designing a quarter berth arrangement in some of their new boats.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. As in most sailboats leakage from ports and hatches are a regular occurance. The shower drains into the bilge but the drain hole in the head is too small and wont empty the floor of water as fast as you can run the water.Holding tank is way too small. The purple cushions are constantly losing their buttons! I wish a more neutral color had been chosen by Hunter. The material looks cheap. The packing gland area has no drain to the bilge as regulations required at that time.Battery area is VERY difficult to reach requiring hanging upside down to reach for maintenance.
Sailing characterisitcs Very fun boat to sail, moves well in light wind. Can be a handful in 25-30 knot winds best to reef main at 25 or so. I get nervous when boat heels at anything more than 30 degrees.Have
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar 1 cylinder is a real soldier. Starts and runs perfectly but need about 2800 rpm to motor at 5.5 knots. Due to design some vibration should be considered normal. Im sure the two cylinder is smoother.Backing up is always invigorating, boat walks to port while waiting to get the water flowing past the rudder while shifting from forward to reverse. Best to give yourself some room and get moving backwards in a straight line before attempting to back into your slip.
Liveability This is not a live aboard. Comfortable for two night stays. The rear berth is 4 ft wide and perfect for one large adult. The V berth is comfy for one other large adult. I don't know how anyone is supposed to fit on the settees.Im surprised that the dinette table does not convert to a bed. The origo two burner works well, I have measured but dont think Ive got enough room for a microwave under the stove.Hot water heater works well and the water pressure is more than adequate.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have talked with their Tech Service people, they were helpful and timely in calling me back.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought the boat from SHIP and SAIL, the HUNTER Dealer in Clear Lake, Tx. Broker was Chris Farris who was very helpful and knowledgeable. I would recommend him to other potential buyers.
