Review of the Hunter 27_89-94 by CraigS

The boat's best features Largest interior of any 27 ft sloop,walkthru transom  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Shoal keel,bow and stern pulpits too weak  
Sailing characterisitcs It's a fast boat on all points except a beat which is very frustrating in WED nite racing.This is not a factor on weekend cruises though.Could be described as tender especially w/ the 140% jib, but you learn to adjust to it.The long travelor I added helps tremendously and we reef the main early. The flip side advantage shows up when the wind is 4-8 kts and we are still sailing while others motor.  
Motoring characterisitcs The Tohatsu ouboard has been troublefree.Change gear oil and plugs every other year and water pump impellor after 5 yrs(found it to be OK) and it just keeps going. About once a season I wish it were a long shaft model but it's not worth the upgrade expense.  
Liveability Can't do better in 27 ft.You trade off privacy for a more spacious feeling by not having any doors but we just change in shifts and once in a while get creative by hanging a blanket somewhere.6 ft. headroom is fantastic and the walkthru transom is a must. We will NEVER climb over the side again.

The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any We bought it as a left over demo when Hunter brought out the water ballast boats and dropped this model.Got a great deal and creative help with the bank financing.
