Review of the Hunter 19_93-96 by Hoyt A Foster Jr

Year built 1994
Location of boat Nampa Idaho
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Actually, I wish it had been my first since it requires less time for setup than my first sailboat plus it is lighter to haul and less to clean. It has lots of sleeping area inside and just has an all around great appearance.
Gear that's been added A Bimini cover for the cockpit has just tripled the practical use especially on those hot August days. I've also added a depth finder.
Structural or complex improvements Installed stereo CD player with speakers mounted internally with a great sound in the cockpit area with no weather issues. My wife is paralyzed on one side so getting on my previous sailboat was quite a task. I built a 2' by 3'-6" "Gang Plank" that angles towards the dock and easily connects to the swim ladder which allows her and anyone else to board the boat at dock level with a very slight incline and nothing to step over.
The boat's best features Great appearance - easy to haul as a trailerable - easy launch and retrieval. Sails easily even in very light wind. Best single feature is easy access for my handicapped wife.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails great until white caps begin to form. At that point you frequently lose rudder control and or fight very slowly reefed into the wind.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors great and even with the keel up, there doesn't seem to be to bad a drift from side wind when you come into dock.
Liveability Its just a very cozy boat with an amazing amount of room in the cabin for its length. It also is quite efficient in its storage under seats and rear and side storage by the aft bunk.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments This boat seems to have an overall quality to it and even newness that hides its actual cost and age.
