Owner bought the boat in 1987
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. I have often considered a larger boat , e.g. 31' to a 35' Hunter. Frankly,The H27 is fine for my needs and can accomodate up to five for a weekend. I've done it several times. The boat has been very reliable and the yanmar 2gm extremely dependable with plenty of power.
Gear that's been added Prior owner put in the 2gm with Vetus pre filters. I have adden Hood roller lurling, with a 150 and 110 genny. Installed propane stove with small tank mounted on starbord stern rail and all safty equipment;Interphase pilot loran (works great);stereo; cockpit cushions(I used the largest Igloo cooler cushions which fit perfectly) ;new Island packet style cabin lights throughout;cabin fans;new plumbing and vent for the sealand head with macerator and dockside pumpout(no oder); new Rule 800 gph bilge pump with discharge hose;galley spray hose to replace small broken fauset;new cabin seat covers;danforth 12HT anchor with 16'chain and 200' 1/2
Structural or complex improvements Rewired 12 volt panel; installed propane stove;changed all main cabin port lights;rescreened all screens; added two fuse panels to handle new lights and fans, etc;made a new base for main cabin hatch from 1/2'plexiglass(old ears broke)This works well and saved me the expense of a new hatch.Poly- urathained all exterior teak.Epoxied the keel with Everstar. This solved the flaking problem.Remounted the two batteries on 1/2
The boat's best features Design, space, sailing characteristics, value for cost.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. All ports and hatches were inferior and deteriorated from exposure.Bildge is too shallow.
Sailing characterisitcs Fast, handles well close to the wind. A bit tender in 15 knots( requires reefing jib and or the main but thats why we call it sailing.
Motoring characterisitcs Excellent with the 2gm. Boat backs to port but will back straight using a back and fill method.Alternator sufficient to maintain batteries.
Liveability I have gone for week long sails with a crew of two.A little cramped, but with proper stowage of gear we surived and had fun. Great gally and plenty of dinett room. The birth extenders are a plus in the main cabin.Ample head room.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Haven't yet.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any From Tidewater Havre de Grace, MD.Very nice to deal with. Remember you for years and are helpful.
